One Health initiative

Standing at the intersection of human, animal and plant health, Purdue University’s One Health initiative is designed to solve the complex, interconnected issues that define today’s health environment. Through academic programs, research and industry partnerships, the One Health initiative seeks to improve the health outcomes of all living things and leverage Purdue’s existing strengths in health science to create new opportunities, discoveries and innovations.

Utilizing academic programs from various colleges within Purdue, One Health’s online and hybrid program portfolio includes both for-credit and professional development programs that span many disciplines and teach critical skills in health-related areas. Hybrid programs are courses that are online but also have some on-campus touchpoints.  The programs are organized by the following categories:

  • Data – interdisciplinary programs that focus on building core competencies in data science and data technologies like artificial intelligence (AI). These programs reflect the growing relevance of data in solving health and environmental-related issues.
  • Industry – interdisciplinary programs that cover key skills related to human, animal and plant health industries and agriculture—from engineering to pharmaceuticals and regulatory science.
  • Health Leadership – built from various disciplines, these programs teach valuable business, leadership and communication skills to help professionals become leaders in their respective fields.
  • Human and Animal Health – focused on veterinary medicine, biomedical science, and human and animal nutrition, among other topics related to improving health outcomes for people and animals.
  • Plant Health and the Environment – programs focused on improving environmental health and making progress in agriculture, with many programs coming from Purdue’s College of Agriculture.

Together, One Health’s battery of online programs provide learners with marketable skills that can be used to solve pressing challenges, innovate industries and influence the future of our planet. Offered fully online or in a hybrid format, these courses and programs are accessible to working professionals and can fit into even the busiest schedules. Whether you’re pursuing an online master’s or taking a professional development course, the programs included in Purdue’s One Health initiative offer rigorous, high-quality training that can move your career, and the world, forward.

Environmental Historian Uses Urban Ag Certificate for Innovative Research on Beekeeping

“A lot of the topics in the urban agriculture program, especially pest management, have been very useful for me…Purdue’s program also gave me great insight into growing trees in urban settings, and when I mentioned Purdue’s program during my interview with Exeter University, they seemed to really appreciate that additional experience.”

After big career switch, new MHA student named Graduate Student of the Year

“All of the program’s professors have a ton of industry experience. So when they’re teaching us about how the industry works, they’re using their own experiences. If they’ve made any mistakes in the past, or there’s something they wish they knew when they were starting out, they can teach that to us so we can avoid those mistakes.”
